The Role
I mainly enjoyed my internship and the 12 weeks went by very fast. It was a really interesting placement, I met some lovely people and my manager was amazing.
Everyone was so helpful and friendly, and I always felt comfortable asking questions and for advice. I felt like part of the team from the start and was never made to feel like 'the intern'.
My manager was really great, so supportive and helpful. We had weekly one-to-ones which I led and which focused on my development. She gave me lots to do and was always there for questions and advice.
For the first 10 weeks I had a really good balance of being busy all the time but never feeling like I couldn't finish my tasks. There was a mix of smaller short term tasks as well as a longer term project that kept me busy when there wasn't anything else to do. However, after I had finished my main project, I had 2 weeks left in which I was not very busy.
I wasn't given a huge amount of responsibility but I wasn't surprised, as it would have been strange to give an intern lots of responsbility. However, there were some smaller things, for example an RSVP spreadsheet, that I had some responsibility for. Mainly I was pretty happy with the level of responsibility.
In terms of my future career, this internship was really helpful in clarifying what I want to do and giving me good experience. It wasn't really useful for my degree but I didn't expect it to be.
The Company
It was friendly and sociable but also hard working- a good balance.
The internship was very well set up, there was a dedicated contact in the Volunteering department who was there for all our questions and also organised the induction days. These were very helpful for getting to know the charity better before we started.
There was a CV workshop and interview training, and my manager set up weekly one to ones with me for my personal development, which were really helpful.
Subsidised Canteen
I would definitely consider applying for a full time job after I leave university.
The Culture
Yes, there were a lot of us and everyone got on really well which was nice.
High- but it is in central London so understandable.
Good- lots of places to go for drinks etc.
Yes- the interns did various fundraisers and I collected money outside Tesco's for a day.
