The Role
It was extremely rewarding, I was given a veriety of tasks, increasing in difficulty the more experienced I became and so was never bored.
The atmosphere was very friendly and everyone was happy to help with any questions. At the start I felt a bit ineffective due to my lack of experience but after a couple of weeks I felt that the work I was doing was valued.
I could ask him any questions at any time, and he always explained everything before asking me to do something.
Due to the variation in tasks day to day, I was as busy as I wanted to be and if I needed to take a break I only had to ask. It was important not to be shy and let my supervisior know if I had multiple tasks at once so he could help me prioritise.
Again, the responsibility increased as I gained more experience. It's important to let your supervisior know if you're finding something too easy or difficult as they're happy to explain something more clearly if you're stuck.
I worked in quite a unique department so it's difficult to directly translate most of the skills, but problem solving, people skills etc all apply and are useful
The Company
Everyone was up for a laugh, sometimes it was hard to understand the colloquialisms but you learn fast.
There was already a structure in place from previous undergraduates, so I fitted in to that and it seemed to work
It's hard to quantify, but I feel I got as much training time as I needed and all the PPE was provided.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
It's hard to tell as I think it depends on how well I impressed
The Culture
A group of undergrads met in the canteen at lunch times, we all socialised together
Both were cheap but I'd say you get what you pay for in my experience
This is one area I have to say is pretty poor, not much to do out of hours.
There are company adverts and opportunities to help with engineering awreness projects, my department had 2 socilas in th the time I was there.
