The Role
I really enjoyed my placement here. I found the work challenging and engaging but at the same time not overly stressful. It was also very interesting and the rotations and extra activities made it great fun.
The feel in the office is great; people are friendly and value your work. I never felt like a cog in the machine, I always felt like I was contributing to something bigger.
My line manager always gave me support and direction. Even when he was away from the desk, the rest of the team gave great advice on the work and projects that needed to be done.
I found that on the whole I had a great balance and I was kept busy without excessive amounts of stress. On the odd day though, there would be a quiet or an especially busy day, but that goes with the industry really. This is a very difficult one to get right, but I feel my line manager and department did a great job at giving me enough time to rotate round other areas and network with other areas of operations.
I was given the chance to run my own project, with developers working with regards to my instructions. The scheduling of meetings and general flow/process of the project was down to me and I thoroughly enjoyed running this. The only issue is that occasionally it took time to get access to particular systems necessary to perform these tasks.
The range of tasks and processes has been great. I feel like I have learnt how to operate such programs as Excel, PowerPoint and VBA to a high level. Additionally, I have learnt a variety of different financial products - the theory that surrounds them and the practical processes that are necessary with a trade. On top of this, the internship has given the opportunity for group projects, presentations and other tasks - all great experience and qualities that will be needed in my future career.
The Company
The office I was located in had a great balance. People knuckled down and worked hard but were willing to have a conversation and a joke at the same time. It made the work very enjoyable and a nice atmosphere to work in.
I feel this is definitely a strength of the internship. RBS have organised a large amount of challenges and tasks for this internship, and outside events such as bowling, a sports day and various networking drinks events. I have been very impressed with how the internship has been organised.
The training in the first week was of a very high standard. Clearly, this was expensively outsourced; it was highly useful and very enjoyable. They have invested a lot of their money and time into me and the other interns, hoping we can become the future of RBS - something I hope to achieve also.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Highly appealing, though with such a competitive industry it is fairly difficult to secure a job.
The Culture
Another strength of the internship. They had organised many networking events and group projects so that there was always time to bond with other interns or colleagues. Through this medium it was easy to set up our own events after work etc.
Liverpool street where I have been stationed is very expensive. There is a tesco for food but most of the stores are expensive. However, you're paying for the geat area, and it is a very nice place to work.
Good, there were many intern events as well as RBS sponsered events such as the treasure hunt.
There were a variety of events to be involved with outside of work, such as charity events, a softball tournament, a cricket tournament and a football tournament. There is also an RBS theatre production.
