The Role
Excellent experience, fantastic tasks and met some great people. Has helped me decide where I want to be when I graduate.
Tasks were assigned to me as they would have been to any other member of the team once initial training and integration were completed.
There were two levels of management involved in the placement, the first was the Graduate manager, who gave excellent support. The second was the Line manager who gave support when needed, but remained aloof for the majority of my placement.
Towards the end of the placement I was very busy indeed, but earlier was something of a grind while tasks were alloted. This can be understood, as collegues are trying to gauge your skill level.
As mentioned earlier, I was alloted tasks to complete that would have been assigned to a regular team member were I not present. This was exactly what I was looking for from my placement. You don't get the buzz if there's no responsibility involved in the task you're assigned
I spent a large ammount of time using various FEA tools throught my placement. These skills will undoubtably come in handy during my fourth and final year.
The Company
Great, Friendly, Knowledgeable people with good banter and a great work ethos. The office in general was very quiet, but my guys were super.
Generally very well organaised. There was a mixup when starting to do with security clearance and missing welcome packs that could be improved upon.
This isn't really a fair question for a 3 month summer placement. It's not really worth BAEs while to train someone for a 3 month placement. You should be using and devleoping the skills you've aquired from uni. Were you to be here for longer I have NO doubt that BAE would provide ANY training or equipment needed
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I'd hope that my work will speak for itself and that when/if I applied to the company there would eb a job available for me. BAEs graduate scheme is second to none, that is especially true for Submarine Solutions
The Culture
Always something to do, meetings, lunches, nights out, WINE NIGHT!, Karting...etc
Cheap rent, cheap Petrol, reasonably priced food and drink all coupled with a substantial salary. Ace!
Okay....Barrow has a respectable ammount of bars, clubs and restaurants for a small town, but it's no city centre.
Camping, Biking, Karting, Painballing, Beer festicvals, Dinners, Trips.
