The Role
It was a slow start to begin with, but gradually picked up pace as the weeks went on. Team / HR were very welcoming and friendly and any issues were addressed quickly to ensure intern happiness.
Made to feel part of the team right away, given work that would effect the team on a day to day basis so felt like part of the unit.
We were told exactly what was expected of us and manager's / HR were always happy to discuss ways in which we could improve. Mid-internship review allowed us to see how we were progressing and where to make further improvements.
At the start there was not a great deal to do, at the end there was almost too much. Perhaps it needs a bit of work to ensure that it is not all a mad rush at the end.
Largely given own projects to do, of which I had full ownership. Did also participate in line work but not to an extensive degree.
In general, I don't think that skills learnt whilst working really help academic learning and vice-versa because they are very different. That said, the skills learnt on the internship really will be useful in later working life.
The Company
Had the right balance between, work and fun. Never felt like I had to remain silent whilst people were working but at the same time, individuals did crack on with their own work when it was necesary.
Really well organised experience in terms of work and social balance. In terms of assesment, it was the first year of operation with certain criteria and so certain aspects could be improved. Particularly the rotation days, it is difficult to see how you can impress in one day that counts for 10% of the overall assessment.
We were given multiple training sessions in excel and had many Learn@Lunch events which gave us further understanding in important subjects.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Varies from year to year and so hard to say accurately what chances are of receiving an offer.
The Culture
At least one intern social event per week, varying widely in activity.
Central London, so expensive on a student's budget. However, salary was easily enough to cover costs.
Central London so excellent Nightlife
Lots of group sports / social events to participate in if you so wish.
