The Role
My placement year was brilliant! I would definitely recommend GSK as a company to work for on your placement year, as well as in the future.
I felt like part of the team from day one. On every project I worked on, I felt that I made a valued contribution to the team and good work was always recognised by colleagues.
The support and guidance given at GSK was excellent, not only from my line manager but also from other team members and colleagues. The great support helped me gain a lot more confidence throughout my placement year which will benefit me greatly when applying for a Graduate position.
My role was extremely busy! I was able to get involved in a large variety of projects throughout my year which helped to develop my transferable skills.
My responsibilities grew throughout my placement year. For example, I planned and ran many Graduate and Industrial Placement assessment centres from start to finish.
The knowledge and experience gained from a placement at GSK has been invaluable. I recognise the importance of communication within business and have also developed my interpersonal and assertiveness skills. All skills learnt and developed on my placement will benefit me going into my final year at University as well as looking ahead for when I apply for Graduate roles.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always friendly. We were not given a formal desk, so there was lots of flexibility to move around the office and talk to new people.
My placement was very organised and had lots of structure.
My line manager gave me lots of opportunity to develop my skills on a variety of projects and through PDPs.

Future jobs are very appealing as they offer great Graduate Leadership programmes across a number of functions.
The Culture
There were many other students on placement at GSK meaning lots of social events! A Facebook group is also set up when you get offered the role and this is a great way to arrange shared housing before you begin.
I worked in Brentford, London so the cost of living was fairly high.
The Nightlife in London was excellent! There is a huge array of pubs, clubs and bars to visit so lots of choice!
There are opportunities to help with a number of award ceremonies that GSK run as well as sports clubs at work.
