The Role
Really good people and a good place to work
Colleagues really seemed to value my opinion
Support and guidance is only given if you need it, so there's the opportunity to be independent, make mistakes and learn without constant supervision but there is always the safety net.
Some days were a bit quiet and others really busy, but the flexible working hours helps with this.
Given my own project to do, without any interference from supervisors unless I asked.
Definitely developed my technical skills as I could see where they are applied. Also helped a lot with general development and experience in the work place.
The Company
Small office of placement students meant there was always something happening and you could discuss each others projects/
HR side of things was pretty poor, no info on start times on the first day, very limited help with finding accommodation. But the project itself was very well organised.
Trained me in everything required to do my job, some things will also be useful at uni and in other companies. Provided lots of opportunities to go to extra training if I wanted yo
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Quite low starting salaries for a chemical engineer, but the relaxed atmosphere and the fact you don't have to work on an oil rig is definitely a good thing!
The Culture
Amazing night-life in Liverpool and always someone wanting to go out.
Liverpool has some expensive areas but there's always something cheap (or even free) on offer
Amazing city to live in, so much going on, for all tastes
Not advertised very well, but there are lots of Unilever societies if you know where to look and who to ask.
