The Role
I especially enjoyed the times when I knew I was really contributing to the team's work and had responsibility for a certain part of the project we were working on.
This differed from person to person, the majority of my colleagues appreciated my work however there were, as expected in this industry, a couple who I feel weren't as interested.
This differed a lot depending on the time of day and what I was working on. It was rare that I had little to do, there were always some good things to get stuck into.
This changed throughout the internship depending on what I was working on. At some points I had very little whereas at other points I was given similar responsibility to those working on the desk.
The Excel and Boomberg skills that I've learnt on the job will be extremely useful in my career, along with the knowledge I've gained of what the different desks do within the Bank.
The Company
The atmosphere was good despite the restructuring that RBS has gone through. Morale was pretty high and it was a good environment to work in.
Instead of being on one desk for the full internship I would have liked more rotations - perhaps 2 or 3 over the internship. I would also have liked to see more Excel and Bloomberg training at the start of the internship instead of just learning it on the job.
There were 3 days of training and a CSR day which was great fun. It was good to have training considering it was only an internship but it was a bit too generalist and didn't really go into much depth on key topics.

Company Parties/Events
The Culture
This wasn't great and in my view more events should have been organised but when the hours are long there's not too much time for it.
Rent was expensive but if you shop around you can find a decent place for not too much. Socialising was pretty expensive but it's to be expected in London.
There was a CSR day arranged by RBS and various talks but not too much else. London has enough to keep you busy though!
