The Role
Brilliant internship all round. Having a home desk was great as could really get stuck into work on that desk however one had to be very careful when doing lots of desk rotations outside the area. This would be a disadvantage because when doing desk rotations to learn more about other areas of the bank, it can be perceived as selecting another desk to move to from home desk.
Great team and havent felt like I have been considered an intern which was one of my objectives - to play part in the team
Received great support. Guidance depended on how much I wanted so it was necessary to keep updating relevant team member of how I was getting on and where I needed help. This became difficult when alot of the team was away as colleagues did not have much time so I had to be persistent
Always had something to do which was great! Sometimes very busy, but in general a good pace
The project work I am doing will be used into a new system being built - very motivating to be doing real work. Also the intranet page I designed and wrote content for is up and running
Not relevant to French degree but did not expect this. Very useful for economics degree and employability skills - time management, excel competence, using specific systems...
The Company
Summer period - much quieter. In my area things seem fairly quiet but also relaxed.
Brilliantly organised and great help and support given concerning any requests or problems we had. Would have perhaps liked a few more intern events like sportsday as it really helps all the interns get to know each other and also very useful for hearing about other desks within the bank. Head talks were very useful when doing intense desk rotations
First week learning course was very helpful. Otherwise it has been up to each individual to push themselves. Feedback from team is very useful to build on.
The culture of the company seems hard working and friendly, it would be a fantastic organisation to work in.
The Culture
It would be good to have a few more intern events for all the interns as otherwise it is difficult to meet up with interns in other buildings and it makes it harder to extend your network
Lived at home outside of London. Main costs during internship was my season train ticket was expensive and food/drinks.
Only 1 PB event hosted during my internship
Involving other interns - GOSH project/ socialising. With desk area - none.
