The Role
I hugely enjoyed my time with Lloyds Banking Group. I was given a substantial amount of responsibility and autonomy within my role under the Process Simplification Team and I made a large number of life-long contacts.
My colleagues were hugely supportive, they were extremely good at recognising and rewarding effort within work and made sure to work with me to fufill all my developmental objectives and ensure that I was enjoying my role, sufficiently busy and went above and beyond to help me to shadow areas of interest that I identified.
My managers were particularly supportive and both my line and task managers helped to coach and develop me throughout the internship. I had weekly calls with my line manager and my task manager consulted me daily to ensure that I was progressing well with my work.
I was generally quite busy on a daily basis though I almost never needed to work beyond my paid work hours (9-5). My line manager ensured that I had a seperate project to work on in collaboration with another intern to ensure that I did not have spare capacity and there was a huge amount of developmental materials available on the intranet if there was some spare time during the day.
My task manager really encouraged me to be independent in my research for our Business Case submission so I worked as an analyst doing autonomous product comparisons amongst other things. I was given alot of freedom to present my work how I chose and to pursue areas of interest. My work was directly fed into our Business Case which was extremely rewarding.
I learnt alot about time management as I was given tight deadlines and varied tasks to complete. My analytical skills improved and there were seminars for the interns around CV, communication and development planning which also will help towards my future career.
The Company
As my team were distributed nationally, I worked alongside one manager within my position and my floor was generally quite quiet however there were often snacks brought into the office and all my colleagues on the floor were very supportive.
The overall work placement was very well organised; there were a wide range of activities and work roles for interns and collaboration between one another was encouraged.
The company invested alot in me. They covered all travel expenses including attendance at our Quarterly meeting and a trip to Manchester to improve my development and allow me to shadow other roles within my department. There were huge amounts of development materials online as well as intern webinars and a great deal of one-on-one learning opportunities. The company also provided us teddies for a charity challenge to kick start our fundraising efforts which ensured we did not need to spend out any money ourselves.

Strong performance on the internship scheme guarenteed me a graduate position for when I finish my university degree.
The Culture
As there are a number of interns within each office there is a supportive and fun social scheme both within and after work.
As I was living from home I did not incur an expense but the social scene within the area is not particularly expensive for London; there is a Wetherspoons nearby and the majority of bars have decent happy hours from 5-8.
There are a huge number of restaurants and bars around Liverpool Street as well as good nighttime transport for afterwards.
Interns were very much encouraged to take on their own projects and use their initiative and all interns were given the option to take part in an Apprentice style challenge raising money for charity.
