The Role
The vareity of work, particulaely at such a unique time in the bank's history has meant I've had great opportunities
My colleagues have been super at providing helpful and constructive feedback, and helping me with shortcuts on anything as varied as tube directions to ways of operating powerpoint!
My managers have had an interesting times themselves - the content of their work is ever changing, so to find interesting tasks that are making a real difference by my carrying them out is brilliant
As with any business, there are busy days and quiet days. The quiet days are great though as you can do some personal development work online or take time to really understand something in depth, or identify new opportunities
Initially, my responsibilites were quite limited, but as the weeks progressed the items of work I've been set are having an ever more prevelant effect. None of my tasks have been absolutley essential, but I've really been able to add value and help out by being responsible for my tasks.
My presentation skills have been improved no end, and my general perception and awareness of business and corporate life has been really developed through the special intern presentations we've had and the access i've had to senior meetings, where I've been able to take part and see operating on a day to day basis.
The Company
THe office has a great attitude - not least because I've been part of an intrim team there's been such a can do atmosphere. The intern social scene has been fantastic too!
Some difficulties in the integration meant that the placements weren't known until the last week before we started. But the skill I've learnt in picking up and going in completely cold into a business, and from that zero knowledge start point to ten weeks later making knowledgable and informed comment, is a really important skill. The extra activities for the interns have made us feel we really are valued
They've invested in me by giving me a unique insight. I've seen product areas I'd never even considered before, and found areas of work I knew nothing about highly engaging and rewarding
Subsidised Canteen
I know the experience that I've had in the ten weels is great - my only regret is that the ten weeks are all too rapidly coming to an end and some of the things I've started to initiate are having to be let go and left to others! I'm really hpoping that I could come back in the future to see how the business I'm in has matured and developed, and have a formal role within it in the future.
The Culture
Every week there've been at least a couple of events - Pizza night outs on 2 for 1 deals, and then usually a club on Fridays. Awesome fun!
Orange wednesdays are the way to go. We may be being paid but we can still live the student lifestyle!
Central London. WHy go anywhere else? From Proms (£5 a ticket) to the London Eye to night clubs to thetres, you couldn't really be more in the thick of it!
Not quite sure what this means - there were loads of social events outside work, but on a ten week placement other opportunities weren't terribly likely?
