The Role
Positives: Business project offers a genuinely interesting challenge in working with fellow vac schemers, culminating in a pitch to a board made up of senior management. Negatives: Being given mundane tasks such as photocopying and being placed in departments that seemed to have very little work.
Some tasks undertaken were obviously appreciated and helpful.
The trainees were the best at checking and supporting me during the seats.
In my first seat I was given a couple of decent tasks but it was really clutching at straws for anything juicy to get stuck in to. In my second seat I was given largely administrative tasks.
We were considered responsible vac schemers in the sense that we were put in charge of a business project and were able to write articles for the RPC intranet site. But on the floors the tasks given didn't require a great deal of responsibility.
Presenting skills and inter-personal skills definitely developed as a result of the business task.
The Company
People seemed to get on well.
Placement ran smoothly.
With the number of presentations from different departments it is clear that RPC values its potential future employees.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Tough application process but appealing prospects for the right candidate.
The Culture
It wasn't clear how often the trainees met up outside of work but amongst fellow placement students everybody got on very well.
Standard London.
RPC's office near the Tower of London is slightly away from the general City area.
People could have joined the football team for a match were the summer social not on the same evening.
