    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This is dependent on which business area you get put in. I didnt have much of a technical background and was thrown in the deep end of software development. Its a steep learning curve, but the challenge was really enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Went out for drinks at least once a week with my team, they loved hearing what i was doing whilst i was completing my project as well.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was away for 4 of the 9 weeks on the job. My team more than made up for this though.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My main project took up a lot of time, but this was mainly because i had to research the necessary tech. The HR project (amending a facebook app) took up a lot of time again, especially towards the end of the internship.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You make your own responsibility with your perceived effort.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main skill i learnt was that of presentation skills, which is always useful. Most of the tech stuff im unsure about needing/ wanting to use again.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The people were really nice and helpful whatever happened, though the tech banter was pretty awful, and non-stop.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Any events were very sporadic and not very well communicated to the interns.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and effort training everyone to the max in their roles, but the roles that was randomly assigned, and not everyone fitted their assigned roles well.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Didnt get a tech job offer, but that was because non-software developers dont really fit into the long term RBS technology business plan, as opposed to anything else.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Regular social scene in the first few weeks, lessened as the amount of work grew, but the events got better to compensate.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The price of a pint here is easily 2 or 3 times the price at uni. Its expensive in the City.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The City is where its at.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Theres loads, but youve got to make the inquiries instead of waiting to be asked. I joined touch rugby, 5 and 11 a side football teams, who had regular matches and after match alcohol.

    5/5
