The Role
This is dependent on which business area you get put in. I didnt have much of a technical background and was thrown in the deep end of software development. Its a steep learning curve, but the challenge was really enjoyable.
Went out for drinks at least once a week with my team, they loved hearing what i was doing whilst i was completing my project as well.
My line manager was away for 4 of the 9 weeks on the job. My team more than made up for this though.
My main project took up a lot of time, but this was mainly because i had to research the necessary tech. The HR project (amending a facebook app) took up a lot of time again, especially towards the end of the internship.
You make your own responsibility with your perceived effort.
The main skill i learnt was that of presentation skills, which is always useful. Most of the tech stuff im unsure about needing/ wanting to use again.
The Company
The people were really nice and helpful whatever happened, though the tech banter was pretty awful, and non-stop.
Any events were very sporadic and not very well communicated to the interns.
The company invested a lot of time and effort training everyone to the max in their roles, but the roles that was randomly assigned, and not everyone fitted their assigned roles well.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Didnt get a tech job offer, but that was because non-software developers dont really fit into the long term RBS technology business plan, as opposed to anything else.
The Culture
Regular social scene in the first few weeks, lessened as the amount of work grew, but the events got better to compensate.
The price of a pint here is easily 2 or 3 times the price at uni. Its expensive in the City.
The City is where its at.
Theres loads, but youve got to make the inquiries instead of waiting to be asked. I joined touch rugby, 5 and 11 a side football teams, who had regular matches and after match alcohol.
