The Role
The project I was working on was very interesting and involved learning a wide variety of new skills. I also enjoyed the atmosphere at the company, the intern crowd is very inclusive and the company organized activities for us as well.
I was often asked what I thought the best way to do something was and colleagues would then challenge me on this. My colleagues were very welcoming at the start of my internship and really helped me get stuck in.
My manager was always available to answer any questions if I got stuck. This was good because it meant I could carry on at my own pace if things were going okay but if I started to struggle I could just ask for some advice without being made to feel stupid.
There were times when I had to work quickly to finish something within a deadline. In general, I was allowed to work at my own pace and just try and do as much as I could.
I was given the responsibility of managing my own time and deciding how I wanted to attempt to do the project. I had regular meetings with my manager to discuss how the project was going and he gave my advice on what could be improved.
I learnt lots of computer skills during my time at Metaswitch. I also greatly improved my communication skills because I was given lots of feedback on how I could communicate better. For example whenever I had to write a report for my manager, I would be told how to make my report more succinct.
The Company
Everyone in my office got on well and the conversations were interesting and inclusive. There was even cake on Friday!
Apart from the odd housing issue, the internship was run fantastically. Settling in at the start of my internship was made very easy and painless. Also, there were activities organized for the interns which meant it was easy to get to know the other interns.
My manager spent a lot of time advising me on how to improve and I was also given feedback on what I had done well. My manager often showed me how to do something so that I could do it for myself even though this was slower than if he just did it himself.

I would definitely consider applying to Metaswitch when I graduate. It is an interesting place to work with great career opportunities. I am also considering coming back next Summer.
The Culture
Yes, I made good friends with the people I was staying with in a company house. Also, there were starting and leaving drinks for interns which were a great place to get to know the other interns and some of the full-time employees.
The accommodation provided by the company was great value. However, the train line going through Enfield is quite pricey and the pubs in the area are too. Not much Metaswitch can do about that though!
There isn't really any Nightlife in Enfield (there are some nice pubs though). However, it's not too tricky to get to central London if you wanted to go clubbing.
There were opportunities to take part in almost anything. There were lots of lunchtime sporting activities going on for all interests and levels.
