    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was really hard, but it was the best thing I have ever done. A good quote to represent this programme would be: Life starts outside your comfort zone. At time it was hard, but the skills I learnt at this job made me a much better person, and I am coming back next year to repeat this programme

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This is one of the best things, the connection I had with colleagues at my own level, and higher on the hierarchy is incredible. I felt like a close friend to the president of our company by the end of the summer.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The first week is spent in Nasvhille, Tennessee, where we spent the whole week in sales school trained to be ready for a succesfull summer. Through the summer, every sunday I had meetings where managers gave me more support and training.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The hours are long. However this programme is exactly for those who are willing to commit to something tough and challenging for the whole summer.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I ran my own business during this programme, so I managed EVERYTHING: the hours I did, the customers I had, the accounting and stats, the deliveries of the products, Everything

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This is what this programme is about, I learnt invaluable skills at this programme, things like being able to WORK REALLY HARD in the first place, accounting, schedule, time management, making a sale, persuasion. All these skills will help me tons at Uni and beyond

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We lived with host families, and our host headquarter was the funnest place ever! At first we were 3 guys, by the end of the summer there was 5 of us. We were a funny bunch, and had tons of fun after every working day.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was definately super organized, in the sense that pretty much there is a schedule for every second of the day! there is time allocated for work, and time for fun, time for shopping for groceries, and time for sleep. So everything is super organized and there is not much flexibility. I think this is great because it taught me the effectiveness of schedule

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As I mentioned previously, we spent a whole week in training school, and all through the summer we had meetings with more training

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    International Travel

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you complete the summer, you are pretty much guaranteed a place as a manager next year if you want it. This means you can come back with a team of as many people as you can find, and earn profit on their profit!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We stayed with host families, so every day I saw my friends, we had dinner together, did grocerie shopping togethere. On sunday we gathered with our whole team from different areas and did fun stuff like gocarting, went to amusement parks, baseball games, etc...

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I payed $30 (about 17pounds) a week for rent, and all the events were really cheap as well.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We did not go out at nights, simply because this isn't compatible with the job's schedule. However the 4 days of Gatlinberg at the end of the summer are pretty incredible.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Every sunday we decided on an activity to do! we did a lot of stuff like going to baseball games, climbing mountains, having barbecues, going go carting, going to an amusement park, etc..
