The Role
On the whole, a fantastic experience and insight into Audit. There were tedious parts here and there, but that was expected.
I was never made to feel like an intern, my colleagues always made me feel like an integral part of the team.
My managers were really friendly and approachable! They were very supportive throughout the whole internship and helped me gain a better understanding of what it is like to work at KPMG.
During the first two weeks of the internship, I was given very little to do, however things picked up in the last 4 weeks.
In the last 4 weeks of the internship, I was given a few research projects to work on by myself, however my managers were always there if I needed clarification and reviewed my work at the end.
The key skills I developed over the course of my internship were my soft skills, which are beneficial in any job field!
The Company
The atmosphere overall was very laid back and much quieter (and emptier) towards the end of the week.
On the first two weeks of the internship, I was given very little to do, and felt like I was pestering my colleagues by asking for work every 10 minutes. In the last 4 weeks, however, I was given my own tasks and kept fairly busy.
On the internship, there wasn't much focus on personal training and development. There was a professional qualifications training session in which we learnt more about the qualifications offered at KPMG. The KPMG graduate programme does however pay for graduates to complete their professional qualifications such as the ACA.
Subsidised Canteen
I had my partner interview after my internship and have been offered a place on the graduate programme!
The Culture
The other interns and I organised socials regularly. I was also away at a client site for a week, and the team I was with organised meals together every evening.
I live in London so had no living costs; however the other interns mentioned that everything was relatively more expensive in London compared to outside London.
My internship was in London, so the nightlife was buzzing.
KPMG organised a CSR day, which was pretty fun! We had to clean up a park in Clapham Junction, in time for the Olympic torch bearer to run through.
