The Role
A great place to do an Intrenship, the networking events allow you to meet lots of new people.
Of course this will vary by team, but my team made me feel welcome and valued from day one (Prime services team)
My management team were great when it came to career advice and training , even when there were busy times they found some time for me.
In this industry you shouldn't expect to have much spare time on your hands.
By the end of ten weeks, I had assumed most of the responsibilities of a full time member of staff.
Degree skills are not largely applicable to the real world and vice versa, however my organisation and work ethic skills did improve.
The Company
There were particularly stressful times , however most of the time the atmosphere was great, again this does vary between team, I've seen some interns placed in team that do not talk to them.
the organisation was okay but some interns were at a disadvantage with regards to the office that they were located in, making networking a challenge. Also I did not receive a mentor for any of the ten weeks.
They spent a lot of time giving us talks from senior members of the firm , basic training courses and of course lots of training on the job. For those that performed well a graduate job offer was made at the end of the internship.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
For those looking to move around within the firm, there are a lot of barrier deliberately placed to stop you moving around between tracks eg. from Finance to IB RIsk , however it is possible to move within you track eg Prime Services Operations to Market Rates Operations.
The Culture
Most people took part in all of the networking events, we even met up outside of the networking events. Lots of us made new friends.
I commuted from outside of London so the only cost I had was travel (£340 ish per month with no rail/Oyster card from Leagrave to Blackfriars) however I believe that it was expensive for most.
As long as you have people in your network who know where to go, it's fantastic.
Charity events and networking events mainly, although there was a marathon.
