The Role
When there was work to do it was reasonably interesting but it was very quiet with lots of staff on holiday, so a lot of the time I was bored with very little or no work to do.
The feedback I received was positive and showed that the work that I had done was appreciated by my colleagues and useful to them.
I had a buddy and a mentor who gave me any support I needed, also most of the staff were willing to give help if I asked for it.
A lot of the time I had very little or no work to do. A lot of the time I would ask for work but noone would have any for me. There were however web based learning courses that I was able to work on during my down time.
I don't think that I was given much responsibility and all of the work I did was checked over and edited if necessary by other staff. However this was to be extpected since we had no technical training. However, once given a task to do we were left to get on with by ourselves unless we asked for or required further help.
I did not gain much technical knowledge, and my degree does not involve any accountacy. However, the work offered very valuable experience and will help me with securing a job in future.
The Company
It was very quiet most of the time. Most of the staff communicate via the office msn software or via email instead of talking face to face which I did not like at first. All members of staff were very friendly.
The induction and final event were extremely well organised. However, I felt that the work placement itself was lacking. My 'buddy' was away at college for my first two weeks in the office and I struggled to find any work to a lot of the time despite asking around the entire team.
There was no technical training but the induction offered a very good, insightful introduction to the firm that I have not experienced with other internships.
Company Parties/Events
EY aims to hire 90% of summer interns as graduates. I was offered a graduate position after the internship.
The Culture
There were only 4 of us, we got on very well and always ate luch together but we did not go out outside of work. The induction and final event were great events for socialising with the other regional interns.
I lived at home
The nightlife is great however I did not attend any nights out with work
It was a big city and so there are lots of opportunities as long as you look for them.
