The Role
I really did enjoy the week!
Everyone seemed friendly and treated me with respect.
We were given useful booklets which contained all the information in them. This did require a level of personal responsibility to make sure that you were organised.
I felt that we were kept very busy without being overly stretched. Although a few of the days involved quite long hours, I think this is important since it gives you a taste of what the industry is like to work in.
I wouldn't say that we were given much responsibility in terms of working for the company, but this was not the purpose of the week.
My degree is in a different field so it will probably not be particularly relevant to that, but I certainly learnt some skills that will be useful when I enter the working world.
The Company
I did not spend the whole week in any particular office, but during the periods of time when I was work-shadowing on the trading floor the atmosphere seemed good.
Very well organised - everyone seemed to know what they were doing and where they needed to be!
There were some good training exercises, although a lot of the week was aimed at showing us what the company is like. I think the balance was just about right over the course of the week.
I was offered a summer placement after this Easter Insight, so it seems to have set me up on a good path!
The Culture
Everyone seemed to get along well. I did not stay in the accommodation provided for many of the other students, so I probably wasn't as involved with everyone as I could have been.
We didn't spend too much time venturing out into the City, although if we had have done so then I imagine it would have been quite expensive.
We went out for drinks on the last night of the week, which was good fun, but other than that we didn't really experience the nightlife. It obviously does exist in London though!
We were involved in a community project on the last day of the week.
