The Role
I found the placement to be both a challenge but also an enjoyable experience. I learnt new skills and met people, I also enjoyed the area that I had to re-locate to.
Within the office and across the wider business everyone made a point of introducing themselves and most made an effort to get to know me. I became an integral part of the office.
At the start of the placement the support and guidance was substantial, I regularly met with my manager to check my progress. However, naturally this amount of support decreased as I learnt about the business and procedures.
I found that I was mostly very busy on my placement, however there was often periods between projects that I found myself looking for extra work.
After l learnt the procedures of the business I was given sole responsibility of numerous projects worldwide.
Although I learnt a lot about Cummins and its business environment, and my commercial understanding increased I feel that when returning to my final year of study my the new skills and knowledge will be limited in helping me. However looking forward I have developed a wide skills set that will both enhance my confidence and performance.
The Company
There was always people to speak to and everyone got on well, however as a small working environment there was often periods each day where everyone minded their own business.
Good structure to the inductions, work load and tasks.
Often opportunities to attend training, I gained a Project Management Qualification during my time at Cummins.

They currently do not have a Graduate Scheme available, however they are in the process of creating one.
The Culture
I lived with the one other placement student and we got on well, we often went out after work with other colleagues.
Peterborough has a good shopping scene and a variety of food places that vary on budget. Buses are cheap enough however Taxis can be expensive.
There is a nightlife but its not great.
I volunteered at a local school, got involved in many community projects, ran fundraising and charity events.
