The Role
I had a brilliant tike on my placement. I was given a varied and challenging workplan
Extremely! Everyone on my team was very welcoming and helpful. I was never made to feel like the 'new person' or 'placement student', I was treated as a valued member of the team.
I had a brilliant line manager who tailor made my workplan to help me expand on my skills and develop as a person. We had regular meetings every week to monitor my progress during which we went through all my projects.
There is never a dull moment in Unilever and there is always something to do, however I never felt too overwhelmed by my workload.
I was given a huge amount of responsability as I was treated like another member if the team. I was given over 8 different projects to manage, many of which were working with people outside of Unilever, which was a fantastic opportunity!
I have really developed my skills over the past year, this is currently being reflected in my work back at University.
The Company
The team that I worked on were really friendly which made for a great atmosphere in the office. There are lots of perks at the Unilever office such as a Staff Salon, shop and gym which helped too!
Initially there seemed to be little direction for my line manager as to how the placement should be formally run. As the year progressed this then became a bit clearer. As it was one of the first years for placement students on my scheme this could be why some areas were a bit vauge.
As soon as I entered the company I was put on as many training courses as possible! They invested a great deal of time in training me and giving me the best opportunities available.

I have been fortunate enough to be offered a place on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
There were not many fellow placement students to socialise with, however I did socialise a lot with people on the graduate scheme. I did go on a ski trip with 30 colleagues which was great fun!
I was fortunate enough to live at home for the year. The area is a bit expensive and a night out in London can set you back a bit.
You need to travel into London for great nightlife which is a 45 minute train ride away.
Lots! I am local to the area, so joined a Hockey Club outside of work.
