The Role
The workplace environment and culture is absolutely amazing. Also, flexible hours and reasonable compensation.
Colleagues were friendly, approachable, and always formed a group for lunch, waiting for everyone before going.
I was left to my own devices for my project but support and guidance were available on request.
Flexible hours enabled me to work at exactly the right pace for me.
The project was very broadly defined, I was working on my own and had complete control over design decisions, only checking up with manager once a week to asses progress and discuss next goals.
This was the first placement I did, so I gained a lot of experience about working in a true industry context. ARM also hold frequent Lunch and Learn sessions and other training that was either very useful or interesting to gain.
The Company
The office was quiet with no distractions, yet there was always someone having a tea break and available for a chat.
Very flexible, time-wise. HR seem a bit oblivious at times though.
Any training sessions available to standard employees were made available to me as well.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
I have a provisional offer for another 7-month placement for next year, which I need to do as part of my degree, but HR don't seem to be entirely sure what to do with me now and if they can agree to coordinate and cooperate with my university. Nothing is confirmed as of yet and I'm not sure where I stand on this.
The Culture
Frequent and varied social events that cater to your interests.
It is a bit difficult to find acceptable accommodation for the summer, as all letting agents in Cambridge require 6-month lease contracts but I was lucky enough to find a single room in a private house about two minutes walking distance from the office at a very good price, bills included.
Nightlife isn't really my thing but there are plenty of venues to go to if that's your thing.
There are numerous official and unofficial social clubs run by ARM employees.
