The Role
Great atmosphere and steep learning curve that allowed me to learn, develop and enjoy the internship throughout.
All colleagues we're very receptive and outward going towards the interns. There are obvious There are obvious limitations as to how an intern can contribute, but I felt that by taking an enthusiastic approach and by demonstrating a willingness to learn, responsibility was increased which in turn allowed me to feel more valued by my colleagues.
Throughout the internship all colleagues on my desk, and throughout the firm in general, no matter how senior or junior were willing to give up some of their time to support and guide me throughout the internship.
As I was on a rotation between two desks I was never short of work. I had various projects and weekly trade ideas that allowed me to interact with various desks and levels of seniority.
As previously mentioned, as an intern there are limitations to the amount of responsibility you can undertake. But given the restrictions, I felt that I was given enough responsibility to experience the pressure and the steep learning curve that presents itself in a front-office environment.
The internship gave me a tangible experience that I will carry into my full-time employment. The inter-personal skills you develop and the professionalism you see and undertake can be carried forward into any industry. The technical skills I developed during the training weekend has given me a good grounding for my future career in finance.
The Company
Although it was a relatively quiet time of year, the atmosphere was engaging and there was a strong sense of a collaborative culture.
Well organised and efficient from both the working point of view and the social side which included various outside social activities and networking events.
The training weekend was very useful and I felt that whenever I wanted to learn more or develop, both HR and my team were willing to accomodate.
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
Canary Wharf is pretty expensive but has a great atmosphere during the week, with its various bars, restaurants and shops.
During the week and particularly on a Thursday and Friday it is lively and there is a good atmosphere in and amongst the bars and restaurants.
Various networking events, social activities (football, squash, golf etc) on a weekly basis.
