The Role
I can only recommend the Morgan Stanley S&T Summer Analyst programme to anyone interested in the field. The exposure we could get to all parts of the business was tremendous. Also, the structure of the program meant that we were able to do various different tasks and develop various different skills. In short, excellent.
This differed from desk to desk, but in general, the staff at Morgan Stanley was very keen to see us integrate into teams and learn from day 1.
We were given support on all levels of the organisation and management had full understanding for the learning needs that we had as interns.
There was a good balance of being busy and having time to see other parts of the organisation.
Again, this varied from desk to desk, but I was given considerable responsibility especially given that I was only on each desk for 3 weeks.
Especially the soft skills developed through some of the presentations will be invaluable going forward.
The Company
People were naturally busy, but always fun and enjoyable to work with.
The organisation of the programme certainly is one of the strong selling points - it is very well structured, with clear activities. The regular meetings with senior management have particularly stood out.
The training given to us was extremely useful and more than one could expect for a 10 week placement.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
To be determined.
The Culture
There was generally a good atmosphere among the interns - especially the first week of training allowed us all to bond quickly, before it became harder to see each other during the weeks.
Central London and Canary Wharf certainly are not the cheapest.
Since Canary Wharf is a working district, there is not much nightlife apart from the after-drinks bars.
There were decent opportunities available.
