The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement at Bond Pearce. The summer vac scheme really reinforced my desire to work for the firm.
Everyone at Bond Pearce was really approachable and friendly. I was made to feel like I was part of the team from day one.
I was given support from a range of different people within the firm, there was always someone I could turn to if I needed help.
I was given a very good work load balance, I was very rarely left with nothing to do.
I was given quite a lot of responsibilty during my placement. This really enabled me to get the most out of the summer vac scheme and showcase my legal skills.
I did not receive any training or develop any skills which could not be used in future employment. I learnt a lot of practical skills by carrying out everyday tasks that trainee's would complete. Furthermore I enhanced my research skills by conducting research through PLC, following the recommendation of my supervisor.
The Company
There was a good atmosphere in the office generally. I found that there was a difference between the two departments that I worked in but I think this was due to the different workloads the departments had at the time.
The placement was very well organised. We were given timetables detailing the different departments we would be working in, the times and dates we would be assessed and the various social events. We knew exactly what we were doing throughout the placment and it ran very smoothly.
Members of staff dedicated their time to further my understanding and enhance my time with the firm. There was no formal personal training as the placement only lasted 2 weeks.
Unfortunately I did not get a training contract with the firm, however I will be applying again next year!
The Culture
Bond Pearce arranged a cocktail making evening at revolutions for the vac scheme studnets and trainee solicitors which was good fun.
I completed the vac scheme in their Plymouth office,so it was quite cheap to socialise and live in the area.
There are numberous bars and clubs on Union Street, so there is something for everyone.
Unfortunately I wasn't really given any opportunities to get involved in any activities.
