The Role
I really enjoyed the experience.
Support and guidance was good from the people that set up the placement (i.e. manager) however not so great from my line manager in the department
Some days work was limited due to security clearance not being ready in time. Most of the time there was work to be done though.
For some tasks there was a fair amount of responsibilty but not all.
I learnt alot over the summer that will help out in uni.
The Company
No one really talked to each other in the office - even at lunch! I was lucky enough to have another summer placement in the same office though so that was alright.
Only bad thing would be the fact the security clearence wasn't set up properly. It got left til last minute and I ended up starting a week later that I was meant to because of it. That was annoying because it cost me an extra week's rent.
Quite alot of time was put into showing me how to do various calculations/work different computer programs etc.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I would definately consider coming back to Bae for a summer placement and the graduate scheme looks great.
The Culture
Summer placement organised regular night outs etc. and I was even invited to a few department nights out.
Rent was pretty cheap (compared to living in the city anyway) but i thought it was quite expensive in pubs etc.
Nights out with the summer placements were pretty good.
There was quite a few summer placement nights out arranged, a few department nights out and the grads arranged some paintballing sessions. Apart from that I think I spent quite alot of money just getting out of Barrow during the weekends.
