The Role
Spent the year working with great people who viewed me as another colleague as opposed to a placement student. This allowed me to make a real contribution and get an insight into what a career at the company would be like.
Always got feedback on projects and pieces of work. Felt like an integral part of the team by the time I left.
Had weekly catch-ups and was always in communication with my line manager. Was given any opportunity to explore areas I felt interested me and could rely on help from any more senior colleagues if needed.
Differed greatly between the start and end of placement. For the first half of the year I didn't have enough work but by the end I was stretched with a far more significant workload. Lessons from first half of placement were learned and this helped to keep me stimulated for the remainder of my placement.
If you prove that you are capable and want the responsibility it can be placed upon you. Though I wasn't 'running the show' I did present to clients and was involved in large projects so carried some responsibility.
Felt as though I developed as a person and feel more competent as an employee. Certainly would stand me in good stead if I wanted to pursue a career in the FMCG market given the knowledge and training you take away from the experience.
The Company
Never dreaded going into work. My team were fun and allowed me to be myself in the office.
Felt as though it was treated like short term contracted work by the organisers rather than specifically being tailored for a student placement. Organisation was good and experienced no problems.
Put effort into ensuring that I was able to develop the right skills for the job.
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Would definitely consider applying for the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Only 4 placement students in the office but there was a good social scene within my team so this wasn't an issue.
Worked in Leatherhead but lived in South London. Cost of living and socialising in Leatherhead cheaper than London but Surrey still fairly expensive.
Leatherhead nightlife is almost non-existent. Nightlife in Clapham very vibrant and would recommend living there despite the cost of commuting.
Cricket team and some other social events such as Caravan charity events and regular 5-a-side.
