The Role
Had some brilliant experiences and got to see lots of very interesting things. Some bits of my work did get quite repetitive though.
Everyone treated me with the utmost respect; regardless of my position as an intern. My work was valued and displayed alongside that of my seniors.
100% fantastic support from my manager in completing my placement work, but also in going out there and finding out about different parts of the business I was interested in.
Towards the end of my placement, as the company's intake of grads started work, I did find myself with a bit more spare time - however I used this time to go and talk to more people around the business and organise my placement for next summer.
I think I was given a good amount of responsibility given that I had only completed one year of university and was very inexperienced in working in a corporate environment. Next year I would have the confidence to take on more, however this year any more would have made me uncomfortable.
I think this placement gave me more skills for after graduating than during university, however I did get to put some university knowledge to use while I was there.
The Company
One of the best things about my placement was the great working relationship between my team and the good laughs we had.
My manager got in touch with me weeks before I started; keeping me up to date with company news and forwarding on employee communications. He also provided clear objectives of what I was expected to deliver during my time there
I went on a couple of training courses, was assigned a mentor and received lots of developmental feedback from my manager based on my initial interview performance as well as my placement performance - as well as advice on how to improve my performance.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I will definitely be applying to the graduate scheme when the time comes.
The Culture
I went on a night out with my work colleagues as well as a couple of nights out organised by the undergrads for meet and greets etc.
Leamington Spa is a popular student town anyway so it was very similar to living/socialising at uni.
As above - student town meant standard range of nights out, but also some more 'upper-class' (?) places in north leamington.
We were able to access £120 of funding towards an extra-curricular activity that would enhance your skills in some way; for example painting/decorating courses, driving lessons, etc etc.
