The Role
I found it very rewarding - I was working in the technology department and was given a project to do, with enough help to ensure I could do it
We went for a couple of team lunches and there is a buddy system which worked really well - my buddy and I went out for coffee a few times and I felt very welcome
My manager was amazing - he devoted a lot of his time to making sure I was on track and was always willing to answer questions, even when I had a lot of them!
I was busy most of the time and if I felt I didn't have enough to do, I asked my manager
I was given a project that was released into production and was responsible at all stages but my manager supported me every step of the way, so it didn't feel like I was on my own
I found it very useful both in terms of technical experience and in terms of business experience - it was my first time in a professional environment and I thought Barclays were very supportive in that respect
The Company
It wasn't crazily exciting - people were working and there wasn't much conversation
The human resources team were excellent and very friendly - we had all the information we needed and lots of events to help us settle in
The company did invest a fair amount of time and effort - my manager took a lot of his time from his normal job to train me and there were a lot of meetings with senior members of staff. There were also a couple of technical talks but I found those less useful because they went over my head
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I've got a place on the graduate programme next year
The Culture
The interns had lots of events to get to know one another and I met up with lots of people for lunch, so I came away with some good friends
It was fairly expensive - I was living in Canary Wharf but there was help towards accommodation costs
I didn't really go out that much - I went to a few pubs though
There were some optional events put on by human resources, which were quite good
