The Role
My internship was thoroughly enjoyable, and I was sad to leave.
The team within the branch are tightly knit, and everyone is aware of what others are doing. This means that everyone helps each other, and my colleagues are always open to offer help when needed, as well as offering praise of my own achievements.
At no point during my internship did I feel that I did not know what I was doing. Projects that I had to do were well explained at all times, and guidance and support was available as and when I needed it by my manager, assistant manager, and every single person at the branch.
I spent all day every day doing something. What you I quickly understood though is that I would need to be proactive in searching for work and tasks to do around the branch, as well as projects and tasks being assigned to me.
My level of responsibility was high, with my manager trusting me to get on with my tasks, for example writing original letters to be posted to customers. It was a perfect balance between being allowed to be independent, as well as knowing that if I required support it would be available.
During my time here I believe I have significantly developed existing skills as well as gained new skills, which I could carry into any career in the future.
The Company
It was an atmosphere which was very fast-paced with the work-load and very enjoyable.
The individuals and team behind the organisation of the internship programme had done a very good job considering that they are still working on the scheme for undergraduates.
It was a small intake of interns throughout the company, which means you feel valued.
A graduate programme does exist and it has been successful in the past, and it is promising that it is still being worked on as the company is seemingly increasing its investment in the programme.
The Culture
Interns are placed a various locations depending on the role they have. My role was as a regional intern so I was located away from the other interns, but it was nice to meet all the interns on the first day, and then meet up again on the last day to review our experiences together.
As it was a regional internship I lived at home.
N/A
As a regional intern there wasn't any activities available, though I wouldn't expect there to be. Though I was taken out of the branch during work to customer visits with the branch manager which was a very good experience.
