The Role
The internship was a worthwhile experience and I feel as though I have gained many useful skills from it.
The team made me feel welcomed, they listened to and considered my opinions in regards to work and projects.
Due to my manager being very busy throughout my internship, I was not given much guidance. However, on a more positive not this also allowed me use my initiative to get involved with the projects that interested me.
At the start of my internship I was not given much guidance on what I should be doing, so there were times when I had little work. However, as the placement progressed I got involved with more projects and became busier.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility during my placement, I was given sole responsibility of putting together brand guidelines.
I believe that the skills and experience I gained whilst on placement will be very helpful during the last year of my studies and also as I go on to graduate employment.
The Company
Although the office was relatively quiet, it seemed friendly and people were always willing to help if you had a problem.
The start and end of the internship were very well organised, with an induction and internship review held at Head Office. When I went off to my area of the business, the internship was less well organised, although I was able to set up regular reviews with my manager which helped.
I was not given any specific training, however I was given responsibility to make decisions and lead a project, which I believe developed my skill set.
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Future prospects are promising, SIG have a graduate scheme and are keen to keep in contact with me about future opportunities.
The Culture
As the other interns were based at different offices around the country, there was not much opportunity to meet up.
There are lots of students in Sheffield and therefore it's easy to find relatively cheap place to rent, and there many bars/ restaurants etc. which offer after work promotions or student discount.
The nightlife in Sheffield is good, however my office was quite a way from the City Centre and the main bars/ clubs.
There was an opportunity to get involved with a sports and social club, however due to the internship only being six weeks long, there were not many opportunities to get involved in outside activities.
