    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working with bright and friendly individuals. I was given a lot of responsibility and had a great experience over the years placement.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At the start of my placement I was welcomed by everybody. At the end of my placement I knew most of the people in my department and felt like a key part of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The tasks which I undertook challenged me but with the guidance and support provided by my supervisor, manager and surrounding team I was able to complete my tasks and learned lots in the process.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start of the placement I found the days went very slowly as I did not have much to do, however I had to get up to speed with the rest of the team. By the end of the placement I was thinking there wasn't enough time in the day to complete all the things that I wanted to do.

  • I feel like I was given just the right amount of responsibility, considering the level of knowledge that I had throughout my placement.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that my placement at National Grid has been invaluable with a set of skills that I will have for life and knowledge that I would never receive from studying at university. the training and work I took part in has really developed me from being a student to a professional.

  • I am currently a National Grid sponsored student in my final year of university and I have my graduate assessment center coming up in November.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the placement students were spread amongst different departments but we made sure that we organized socials outside of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I found the rent to be quite high in comparison to living by university.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leamington Spa was the main place I would go out at night, Coventry and Birmingham are also a short train journey away.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • National Grid actively encourages volunteering of all sorts. There are also many sports clubs to take part in advertised at work. The surrounding area also had plenty of activities to get involved with.
