The Role
Good variety of work involving engagement with a range of stakeholders.
Colleagues were happy to give me work of real value to the division and to accept me into the team, despite the fact that I was only there for one year.
Manager regularly ensured that the work I was doing remained relevant and engaging as well as checking that I was getting all that I wished to out of the placement year.
Regularly had spare capacity from the set tasks that i was given, however, this was reviewed in order for my time there to be used in a more effective manner.
Most of my work was confined to my immediate product marketing team, so responsibility was confined to within that, however, initially I found the level of responsibility that this involved to be much greater than my initial expectations.
General development of prioritisation, computer literacy, communication and presentation skills will definitely benefit me in my degree studies as well as my future career.
The Company
Good atmosphere for working, not too full-on, with plenty of conversation flying about, yet not enough to prevent effective working.
i enjoyed the set-up of the placement which placed primary focus on day-to-day work, but also provided the opportunity to perform charity project work with other placement students, network with current graduates and be fast-tracked onto the graduate scheme.
The student who I was replacing was persuaded by the company to stay on across my first month of working to act in role to train me up to the standard necessary to perform successfully across the year, which I found particularly useful.

My experience was that both my manager and the graduate recruitment team put in place all of the requisite support to ensure that a place on the graduate team would be available.
The Culture
Only 20 placement students, scattered across the country, but the core were in Reading, which allowed us to have a reasonable social scene, augmented by the presence of many other placement students from other companies in the area and a vibrant student city.
Cost of living is a lot cheaper than London, where i am based, and generally seemed to be in line with small/medium size cities across Southern England.
Good nightlife scene, with a reasonably sized town centre and a large university population. Personally however, I experienced an assault, which led me to feel less than secure in the town centre on nights out!
The placement students took it upon themselves to form up a 5 a side football team, whilst others played for the Fujitsu cricket team.
