The Role
The internship was very interesting and I was working with lots of great people. so I had a lot of fun.
The project I was working on started out as a prototype, but by the end of my internship it was being integrated into product code. I felt like any other member of the team by the end of my time there.
I was assigned a mentor to guide me through technical training and for any help I needed. He was great and I never felt at a loss for what to do.
Apart from the occasional quiet day, I was kept very busy throughout, which was a good thing in my opinion.
I was given total responsibility for the application I was writing. All my code was checked by my mentor or other members of the team, so it was never too daunting.
I learned a lot about computer programming and computer communications, as well as improve my own communications skills and confidence.
The Company
The atmosphere was very hard working, but you could always chat to people and I never felt isolated.
Aside from one tiny problem assigning people rooms in the company accommodation, everything was organised perfectly.
They took me on despite having very little programming experience and trained me up to having a comprehensive understanding of the language I was working in.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
They offered me an interview for a full-time role after I graduated, and offered me a job from that, which I will most likely accept.
The Culture
There were a large number of interns (~35) and we were living in company-owned accommodation, so it was just like being at university. We went to the cinema, out for meals and did a full survey of the local pubs.
The accommodation was company-owned, so the rent was subsidised (far cheaper than my student accommodation). Food and drink were London prices, so slightly more than I would usually pay, but not extortionate.
There were several fantastic pubs, but for more nightlife than that you had to get the train into more central London (which was only about a 25 minute journey).
There were several sports clubs that met at lunchtimes - I started playing Ultimate Frisbee, as well as other social activities and plenty of pub trips.
