The Role
Overall, I enjoyed the internship - mainly due to the friendly people and positive work atmosphere. The work was not very challenging, but I can understand given the short internship length (6 weeks) this may be difficult to provide.
Very friendly people at PwC. Always welcoming and make time to talk to you whilst still maintaining a level of professionalism. I felt comfortable in approaching colleagues for help or queries.
I was given a people manager with whom I set objectives at the beginning of the internship and then caught up with him about 3 or 4 times during my time there to discuss how I was finding the job. He was very supportive and gave me useful and understandable advice.
This varied quite a lot. There was one week where I was really struggling to find work, but the resource manager did her best to try and find me some relevant jobs to do. The rest of the placement had a variety of interesting work, which involved some travel to clients' sites too.
I didn't feel like I had a lot of responsibility during the internship.
The training week was very useful for the work required at PwC. The skills learnt could easily be transferred if I were to join an accountancy based graduate scheme. The soft skills I have learnt at PwC are very relevant for helping with my degree and my future, for example growing in confidence when communicating with professionals.
The Company
The people worked hard but were also very chatty and fun.
PwC excelled on its organisation from the recruitment process right through the internship. Everything ran to plan and was well thought through.
We spent a week before the internship in a conference hotel being trained on accountancy skills which was very useful.
I received an offer for their graduate scheme after the internship.
The Culture
It would sometimes be difficult to meet up if people were travelling to clients' sites but efforts were made for socials such as a sports day, poker evening, drinks at the pub etc.
I was in Greater London so it was not very cheap.
Lots of pubs / bars around.
I would have liked more opportunities for sporting activities or volunteering, but was not offered these. This could have been because of the short placement, but it would have been nice.
