The Role
I thought the internship had a good mix of intensity during the day but also some social networking time in the evening. There wasn't much of a gap for free time unless you got up exceptionally early, so I would have perhaps appreciated an hour a day to chill. I found that in the social time I was constantly trying to make a good impression and ask good questions to the staff I met so wasn't ever fully able to relax.
Everyone was at a similar university stage to me and I really enjoyed meeting students from around the country. I got on well with everyone in my group and made some lasting friendships which is remarkable considering the internship was less than a week.
The recruiter for Scotland, Lauren, has been exceptionally help full through my time with PwC. She gave me good advice for the application at a recruitment event at my university, passed on excellent feedback during and after the insight academy and managed the issues on my application for a summer internship very professionally.
There was a lot of intense testing and group work which made it quite rewarding yet challenging. There was some social time in the evening to meet staff, but as I mentioned above, you could never totally relax during this time and everybody was after the staff's attention.
As the Insight Academy wasn't doing any work for the company itself there wasn't actually any responsibility to give out, besides being responsible for yourself ie. appearance, meeting timings and organising the group presentation. I wouldn't really say this is an applicable question as it was more of an assessment internship than a working internship
I found the group work really beneficial and the testing we did highlighted my strengths and numerical abilities. It's set me up for a summer internship next year which was what I really wanted in the first place. That in turn could hopefully lead to me having a job after university which is fantastic.
The Company
The atmosphere was never too intense and people could always have a laugh anytime of the day which was fantastic.
The staff ran it fantastically.
The company must have spent a lot of money on me over the course of travel, food and accommodation so a big financial investment. Also, the time taken to individually give me feedback was considerable.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
The Insight Academy has given me a summer internship with them which in turn could lead to a job. At the moment I'm very keen to work for PwC and hopefully the summer internship will confirm that.
The Culture
As I said earlier, I've made some lasting friendships with some of the people I spent the week with.
We never really had time to leave the resort and everything was paid and provided there.
Never left the resort as it was a short academy. I still enjoyed the networking time in the bar.
You could have played football, went swimming or used the gym but there wasn't a great deal of time.
