The Role
As a whole I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 weeks working with PwC and would recommend the programme to anyone. As a student work experience can be a key factor in attaining a graduate job, which I was lucky to be offered by PwC due to my performance on the internship.
As part of the internship I was treated as though I was just starting my career with PwC, and not just visiting as a summer intern. I was welcomed into the team with open arms and found it incredibly easy to settle into the workplace.
Each employee at PwC, including interns, are assigned a people manager who oversees your activity and is a go-to person for any concerns you have. I found it reassuring to know that I had someone to talk to if any problems arose, which luckily they did not.
From start to finish I never found myself bored at PwC as I constantly received interesting and sometimes important tasks to complete.
I was surprised by the high level of tasks I was being assigned as the weeks progressed and found myself working at a graduate level. To begin with I was learning the basics but as the weeks went on the tasks became increasingly rigourous and challenging, which I enjoyed.
As part of my internship I had to complete a group project and present it to PwC partners on my final day. The skills I obtained from presentation to partners will stand me in good stead for the future as this was one of my weak points beforehand. I also feel the organisation skills, communication skills and general professionalism obtained from working within such a high calibur of firm have developed me as a person and prepared me for my role as a graduate at PwC starting next year.
The Company
At PwC I felt as though everyone working there were friends, as well as colleagues. Due to the open plan layout of the office I was able to interact with people from different departments, as well as my own.
When I started the internship it was evident that a mass amount of preparation had been done by PwC before I arrived. I spent the first 3 days at an internship induction down in England with all the interns from across the UK, which was incredibly well prepared and a great experience. There had also been work planned for me in my department for when I arrived.
As previously mentioned we attended an internship induction which trained the interns in their respective departments activity and allowed us to complete team building exercises with our fellow interns from each office. When I began working in the office I received training in the PwC systems and department-specific system.
Company Parties/Events
I was lucky to be offered a job in the Assurance department, although I completed my internship in the Tax department. This was because I requested a transfer and PwC accomodated this, although I had to attend an extra interview.
The Culture
Due to the internship induction at the start I became good friends with the other interns right from the start, and continued this throughout the placement.
I live at home in the city (Glasgow) which I completed my internship.

Every week I participated in 7-a-side football with colleagues from my office. We also had an olympic themed competition on the Wii Sports one day after work as part of the olympics being held in the UK.
