The Role
I really enjoyed working at ARM and learnt a lot throughout my placement with my manager.
My manager, made me feel really valued by praising my work. We also had regular 1:1's which made me feel very valued as a summer placement student.
I was given the exact right amount of support and guidance from my manager. My manager was easy to get in touch with over SMS/Email/Skype, even when working from home. I never struggled to get in touch with my manager if I needed support or guidance.
This varied throughout my placement. Towards the end I was very busy everyday but in the middle there were some days where I ran out of things to do. This was very rare however.
I was given the right amount of responsibility on my placement. My manager would often explain tasks and just let me get on with them, so I felt like I was owning a few of my own projects and responsible for them.
The skills I developed will help me in my future career path. I learnt to use new communication tools, and also carried out further qualitative research which will definitely help me in my MRes Psychology course this year.
The Company
I found the office too quiet at times but this is because on my sandwich year I was used to work in a very busy department. However, everyone was really friendly and easy to talk to. They also helped me if I had any questions when my manager was away.
The placement was very organised and HR were very easy to get in touch with regarding any payroll or holiday queries. My manager was also very organised and had plenty of tasks for me to get on with.
I was only at ARM for 3 months so I didn't undergo any training and development as such in terms of courses, but I definitely learnt a lot of new skills and valued my placement.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I have already discussed with ARM coming back to do my Master's research with the company next year.
The Culture
Unfortunately I started my placement late due to travelling, so I wasn't really able to get involved with any social aspects with other placement students...
I lived at home!
I am originally from Cambridge and I don't really like the nightlife here...but for some it would be ok!
There were sports clubs but I didn't have too much time to engage in these after work.
