The Role
Taking a placement year was the best decision I ever made. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year and gained life changing experience that I would never have got through a standard university course.
My team was a very close, very friendly team and everyone supported each other. The team was all females which helped I think but regardless of this, the general Amex atmosphere is friendly and supportive.
My manager was a brilliant support throughout my year at Amex. We has weekly 121s and talked daily, meaning any concerns I had could be talked about and sorted quickly and easily.
Dependent on the project I was always busy at work, but not too busy as to be spending hours in the office completing overtime.
The responsibility given to me during placement was on a level with full-time colleagues which was fantastic.
The skills I have learnt will without a doubt make a massive difference to my job search after graduation, I learnt more in my first month at Amex than I did in my previous 2 years of university!
The Company
We had birthday cakes, casual Fridays and nights out...overall a very fun office!
The application process has now changed but my experience was excellent. I went from applying to getting the job within 3 weeks.
I was given the option to enrol in many forms of recognised training but the most development I experienced was through training from my fellow team members.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I would love to work at Amex if the opportunity was there!
The Culture
There was only 1 other intern in my department, but our relationship was excellent!
I lived at home for my placement year, but train fares to London were quite expensive. However, this was compensated by the great salary provided!
Working in London the nightlife was excellent!
We had regular team lunches (pretty much every Friday) and many social nights out for birthdays, leaving do's etc.
