    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement at the NHS was very good, i learnt a lot of inside knowledge about a system we all use in our lifetime. The NHS isn't just a walk in and get treated its unbelivable at how much detailed work goes behind everything. I really enjoyed learning about the NHS

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The NHS is one big family, the whole trust was family like and all worked together and supported each other. Communication wasn't the best as other commitments but everyone was helpful.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was also my training co-ordinator so was fully supported with work and with my learning. Not once did i feel left alone.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I believe i was pushed hard, this was down to my own preference as i didn't like to feel as though i was lazing back. So i requested work and did ad-hoc jobs, it was a perfect balance but not everyone would enjoy what i did (purely cause i did more then expected!) Otherwise had i stuck to the plan it would have been the perfect balance.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The tasks i was doing were vital to operations, they were crucial to month end and therefore was a very important role i was filling. It wasn't decision changing work. I felt as though i was valued within the trust.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Unless I stay with the NHS the skills learnt at work will not be valuable, the personal skills will be required and i think i have developed well here.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • during month end the place went quiet, everyones head went down and work commenced.. during the quiet periods of the month (2 weeks) it was lively and everyone was chatty. The atmosphere changed with work demands overall was enjoyable atmosphere

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • the placement was very well structured, it contained three away days for all the regional students - this was held in birmingham apollo hotel and we learnt things like CV development, the national NHS application as well as personal skills (doing myers brigs test) the work within the trust was seperate and each trust dealt with the student differently, had to make the most out of hte placement if you wanted more. I definately made the most out of mine!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The trust let me go on internal courses mainly computer based ones (advanced excel / advanced database / mede training), but the NHS scheme allowed me to go on the three away days (mentioned above)

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to try the private sector however I am not sure what i want to do in the future just yet, i will keep the NHS as an option and welcome to go back to my trust.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The trust i worked at was in the countryside, so not much going on - the staff did try to get events planned however it didn't happen often. The regional get together always planned something and three times during our pacement we met up.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living at home - cost of living was cheap. Socialising was cheap as well compared to university prices

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were few bars and clubs none of them outstanding and not ones recommended. If you want a good night out go birmingham

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I organised a weekly football match (5 a side) with the other finance staff, this has went down well and attracted players from outside of finance.

    2/5
