The Role
I had a great experience during my placement at Aldi. I enjoyed my time in all the departments I worked in.
In all the departements I felt like a valued member of staff.
during store time my store manager and area manager gave me great support, I also had regualr meetings with my operations director and updates for university with my regional director.
this varied depending on where i was working, you cant control how busy you will get when working in the store. but there is always something to do. there was never a boring moment.
I was given a huge responsibility right from the start when training in the stores. after my store training i was the key holder and only managerial person opening the store.
Having the ability to see all different aspects of a company was incredible. The modules I am now taking can all refer in some way back to my placement.
The Company
there was a good balance in the offices everyone always worked hard as there are deadlines to be met.
for being the first placement student in the Swindon offices the placemement was very well organied. now they have employed more students there is an even better system.
I am very grateful for the time Aldi has invested in me, I am also very fourtunate to be going back during my christmas and easter holidays to work in the offices.

I understand the commitments of the role as an Area Manager, at the moment I want to get some more life experience but hopefully down the line i would like to go back to Aldi.
The Culture
there wasnt much of a social scene between placement students as there were only two of us and we were always at different stages of the placement, however I got along very well with the office staff and there was a great social scene there.
I was able to work from home and commute. When i was working in the regional offices Aldi paied for me to live in a BnB during the week and also paid my petrol money for when i wanted to go home.
I cant say i experience much of the night life in Swindon, as i was living at home but the times i went out with the staff in the office i had a good time.
during my time living in the BnB i joined the gym and met a number of people there. Swindon is a very large town where there is lots to do.
