The Role
The internship as a whole was a lot of fun. I would recommend to anyone looking to go into a professional services firm and anyone who isn't sure what to do. It's a good starting place to see whether it's the right job for you before getting yourself onto a grad scheme.
Everyone I worked with was so lovely. They really try and help you feel involved and they're always keen to help you out.
Managers were really helpful, they got you onto jobs if you had a spare week and were always there to answer any questions I had.
Days on clients sites tend to be more busy. Days in the office can be really busy or really quiet, you often have to ask people for work so it depends how much people have for you.
Given lots of responsibility from outset. During second week I was having to go and speak to high level financial employees about aspects of the business and its processes.
There was no specific training but communication/teamworking skills are essential and the internship really helps improve them as you're constantly working with people you've never met before.
The Company
The office atmosphere can be really fun or really quiet. When there's lots of people around it had a good buzz but a few days there was only 4 or 5 people in so it's obviously a lot quieter. You don't spend much time in the office as you're mainly at client sites working in smaller teams. These are always a lot of fun and everyone I worked with was easy to get along with.
Pretty well organised. Some standard IT issues etc. and did have a spare few days here and there but overall it was done well.
We didn't really have any personal training, except compulsory IT things. However, it was only an 8 week internship and I know that if you work there full time there are lots of training and development courses on offer.
Subsidised Canteen
At the end of the internship if you meet a level within the behavioural criteria then you are offered a partner interview (same as the graduate scheme). I chose to stay at my office and have the interview there and was subsequently offered the job. It's incredible to go into 3rd year with a job as it means you can focus on your course rather than doing grad applications.
The Culture
The first 2 days are an induction course which was at a hotel with all the other interns from the south. This was a lot of fun and is a good chance to meet everyone. There were only 2 of us interning at my office and you're rarely put on the same jobs. Often there were pub lunches whether in the office or at a client and drinks after work occasionally depending on who you're working with or near!
I lived at home and any socialising was in London so is more expensive than regional places.
Where the office was there wasn't much but so close to London/Clapham area where there is a lot more.
There was a pub quiz while I was there and there had been other activities before and after the placement.
