The Role
During the two week placement I sat in two departments. I was given a variety of work in many areas of law I had never dealt with before. The placement provided me with a real insight into the firm and reinforced my desire to work there.
Everyone was extremely friendly and genuinely interested in my background. The firm runs a buddy system so that you have a trainee to guide you through the placement. The whole placement was very well structured, with social events included. This really helped me to feel part of the firm during the placement.
Both my supervisors were very supportive. They treated me as they would any trainee and were happy to answer any questions about the work they had given me. I found the face to face feedback at the end of each week very constructive.
Really quite busy. If I ever finished all my work, I always felt I could ask superviors/trainees if they had anything that I could help them with. At no point did I feel overwhelmed.
I was treated as a trainee would be throughout the placement. I was set deadlines to finish work. Research I undertook was used by my supervisors in advise to their clients.
The legal and personal skills I developed throughout the placement and the experience of working in the firm will undoubtably help me in my future studies and worklife.
The Company
Very friendly. Everyone was chatty and approachable.
Extremely well organised and structured.
The assessment activities and feedback sessions were very useful for personal development as you gained an insight into your strengths and weaknesses.
I have a training contract with the firm as a result of the placement.
The Culture
Yes, the trainees were very sociable. They attended all the socials organised for us.
Bristol is quite reasonable.
Very varied.
Bristol is a vibrant city, with a lot going on depending on your interests.
