The Role
It was a demanding 8-week long placement, requiring you to work more than 9-5. However, I acquired a lot of important skills in long-term view.
We had lab-group outings, a lab-day, sports in the labs, etc...
Anytime I needed an advice, there was somebody to help me. Anytime something went wrong, there was somebody to repair the broken stuff after me.
Reasonably busy, but had time for lunch/coffee anytime I wanted.
The main task was given to me by my supervisor, but I had the opportunity to use the lab equipment and run my own designed experiments.
Perfect skill development, all very closely related to potential DPhil in Biochemistry/related subject.
The Company
We had loads of fun, especially with dry ice in the tubes and sports after labs.
The overall structure was well-prepared, but some of the details and timetable weren't planned with much precision.
All of the skills greatly helped me, all the lab techniques I learnt, all the papers I read.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I could if I wanted to take it.
The Culture
Very good atmosphere with all the lab-mates, helpful and kind to each other.
Oxford is quite expensive in general.
During the summer holidays, it was not that great as during the term time.
Some sport activities, pub crawls, etc...
