The Role
Everyone was very friendly and approachable, there were lots of opportunities to get different training and it was very well structured
They were all very approachable. There were lots of people to ask questions (no matter how stupid!) and they all were used to having students in the lab, so knew what to expect.
My supervisor was amazing. I am still in contact with her now. They help you with your reports, guide you through inductions and are always there to ask questions
If I wanted more to do, I could ask, and if I felt I had too much on, they would take the pressure off. There was a lot of flexibility and I had a great time!
I was given a set of compounds to make which were important and everyone was relying on me to do that. If I was struggling, I had support, but it was really easy to have more responsibility if I wanted it as well.
They helped enormously. I was so confident going into the lab after my placement, and it made me decide to do a PhD
The Company
Lots of pub lunches, relaxed ground meetings and lots of students and people to have lunch with
Start off with a course in Bristol, where you are taught the basics, and there are lots of lectures and seminars to help you improve on things like interpreting 1D and 2D NMR, MS, data analysis, and even lectures about the biology related to our compounds.
Really helped with anything I wanted, gave me lots of advice, lots of training and were very helpful.

I'd love to once I get my PhD. They are a great company to work for
The Culture
There were lots of students, so it was good to have people my age, and also the lab went out a lot socially, so got to know them all better as well.
Not bad. Rent was cheapish (less than £250 a month), and going out was okay. It was close to London incase you got bored of Stevenage.
Not the best, but it was close to London, and if you go out with lots of people you know and like, it doesn't really matter on the venue.
There was volunteering through work, and lots of sports available. And the quick ride to London helped with doing other activities.
