The Role
I worked for the Hospital Products Division within Baxter. I loved working for many different departments and exploring their objectives and goals. I enjoyed working for the marketing department as I was given a lot of independence and responsibility on various projects throughout the year.
The colleagues at Baxter in Compton were all so lovely and friendly. I worked with other departments around Baxter so I was always meeting new people and understanding their roles in the company. I was part of a close team while in Hospital Products and my manager was always there for support or guidance. He also made sure my university assignment was up to date and offered help with dissertation ideas and final year options.
I had a lovely secretary and manager in Hospital Products which would both offer help and knowledge on anything I was finding difficult, she would also arrange transport and hotel bookings for meetings.
I worked with a lot of divisions within the Hospital Products Division. I created a Gantt Chart to make sure I organised my timelines efficiency and show the projects which I had on each month and for what department. If I ever was too busy or have too little I could always discuss this with my manager but a lot of the time I would always have work to be done for the various business units.
I was given a lot of responsibility on my placement, and I toke a lot of independence on individual projects with the marketing departments for example I worked with BioSurgery to create a new marketing tool to increase awareness of the website, I did this through a creative agency and supervision of the product manager.
The one year experience within Baxter has provided me with valuable knowledge for the future, it will also help me with my studies on return to university for my final year. I recommend this placement to anyone seeking marketing experience in the pharmaceutical field.
The Company
Always a great atmosphere, I really enjoyed coming to work ( even if it was 9-5! ) Cakes on Fridays and fried breakfasts were also great! The people at Baxter made work so enjoyable :)
My handover could have been improved as I had a new role but overall it was organised very well with my manager for the year!
The company would do anything for you if you wanted too see more about the business! I was also allowed to go into hospitals to see how our products are being used on patients!

I was working with a fellow graduate in Hospital Products who had been taken on after her student placement and she absolutely loves it, she was also promoted during my time at Baxter!
The Culture
Compton is not near a lot but Newbury and Reading are the nearest nightlife locations.
I spend half the year travelling in from Southampton and the other half from home in Reading. I would recommend living at home if you are from around Newbury to save money!
The nightlife in my area was okay but I would recommend Reading for a night out!
Lots of social activities, even Zumba !!
