The Role
I enjoyed the challenges and learning new skills every day. The first few weeks were very intense which was tough but very enjoyable.
Everyone was very receptive to a newcomer in the team and wanted to help me as much as they could.
My department manager was very open to questions and for me to drive my own learning to where I wanted to. My section managers were also very patient and supported me wherever I needed it.
To begin with it was very intense days and a lot of information to take in at once, but towards the end there was less structure and sometimes days on the shop floor could be quite long, especially as as an intern you are not officially rotad in, but extra help, so sometimes there was very little to do.
By the first weekend I was running the shop floor on my own in the peak hours. I had support there but I had to make a few key decisions and deal with some challenging situations straight away. This was great and set the tone for the responsibility I had to deal with throughout the six weeks.
Management, organisation, working in a team, punctuality, commercial awareness are all key skills that I developed through this internship and they will definitely be helpful to me in the future.
The Company
Subsidised Canteen
I have been asked to apply for the graduate scheme, but I'm not sure whether I would focus on the particular area I was interning in. JLP are a fantastic company however and I would think very hard about another job within the partnership as a fantastic opportunity.
The Culture
I got along well with my fellow interns and we saw each other outside of work.
City Centre Leicester has its fair share of good value restaurants and cafes.
I was living at home and commuting so I didn't really take advantage of this.
There were a couple of opportunities for interns to get involved but I do feel the Partnership could offer more to interns.
