The Role
Good variety of work, friendly and supportive co-workers, good support from manager
I felt the work I was doing was useful to the company and I was given responsibility in my work
I was able to speak to my manager at any time and I felt able to ask questions and for advice.
Although I was given a task to pursue for several weeks, I found I sometimes needed more work to do, while waiting for simulations, etc.
I conducted an investigation where I was given the freedom to pursue my own views about what was important.
In particular, I learned to use commercial CFD software, and I gained a good insight into working at an engineering company, such as which of the skills I used at university were useful in a job.
The Company
My colleagues were friendly and always willing to give advice
Well organized, with induction day and tour to get you started and feedback session at end, and placement review with manager.
I was given training for the computer systems and programmes I would be using, but not much apart from that.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
I attended a half day assessment center with similar events as the initial assessment center. This led to a place on the graduate scheme for myself.
The Culture
there were a few social events planned among the placements/grads.
Most things were reasonably priced, e.g. rent was about a third of what you would pay in London.
Generally a quiet area around Gaydon itself, but there is a nightlife scene in Leamington Spa or Coventry which are nearby.
Not many, just a few social activities organized by other grads and placement students.
