The Role
I really enjoyed my placement as it's a friendly company to work for and I had a lot of responsibility.
I was given real work which was very important to the company and I was trusted to deliver.
I had weekly progress meetings where I would present project metrics such as % tasks complete and discuss targets for the following week.
It was generally very busy with 3 simultaneous projects as well as several meetings a week and lots of emails.
My projects were very important to the progression of larger projects my team was working on and I was given almost complete responsibility for organising an event which was attended by senior managers and executives.
In having so much to do, in a short time and having to liase with lots of people to complete my tasks, I learned a lot of management and communication skills which I know I'll use in my degree group projects and especially future career in the context of any team work.
The Company
Everyone is friendly and the fact that employees are obviously passionate about the cars boosts your morale and constantly reminds you of the end product.
Whilst I had definite tasks (3 projects) to complete by given deadlines, I had very little in terms of induction and exit feedback.
I frequently met with my manager and was encouraged to attend meetings to get a feel for the team's work, even if it wasn't directly relevant to my work.
The company encouraged me to apply for another placement the following summer based on my good performance.
The Culture
There wasn't much in terms of organised events.
Coventry is fairly priced, and especially in living costs as the site is on the outskirts.
The city has a varied nightlife and there's always something going on as there are lots of students in the city.
There was not much planned outside of work.
