The Role
Depends on educators, some are very helpful and encouraging and others can be harsh on students
If given responsibility of a ward it definitely is a big help to staff
Depends on educators but there are often a lot of learning resources available
Hospitals are busy and there is always something to do in terms of rehabbing patients
As the placement goes on more responsibility is placed on you so during my last patient I was responsible for 2 wards and working at a junior physiotherapist level.
Learning opportunities are much better on placement where you get hands on experience and view ward dynamics first hand
The Company
Dynamics between students and educators can cause an intimidating office experience but it depends on the student and educator's personalities
Usually NHS placements are well set up with early contact, inductions and educators are trained to deal with studenets
NHS funds the course so they invest a lot in the development of students
Healthcare/Dental
If you perform well on a placement and a job comes up there having an educator from that placement as a reference can prove extremely valuable
The Culture
Fellow placement students were students from your course so everyone was keen to get together and have some downtime outside of placement
Newcastle is a very cheap area for socialising as its very student-friendly
Newcastle is arguably one of the best cities in the UK for nightlife
Plenty of opportunities to get together with fellow students
